  • How Do I Apply?

Visa applications can be made up to 3 months before your expected departure date.

For both options applications will only be accepted if applicants:

1 Complete an online visa application form at Visa4UK and make an online appointment to submit your visa application and biometric data at a visa application centre in Tokyo and Osaka.

Please note: An appointment at the visa application centre must be made at least 2 days in advance. An appointment is required for each applicant, so for a family of 4 you will need 4 separate appointments, 1 for each family member. Every applicant aged 5 or over will need to have an appointment to have their fingerprints scanned and a photograph taken. This will be done at the visa application centre. We will not accept the application without prior appointment. You do not need an appointment for passport collection.

    You should:
    - Ensure that you complete all the sections correctly. Sections 1 and 2 are vital to considering your application. The information in this section must be completed accurately.
    - Print all the pages of the visa application form and bring it to the visa application centre on the day and time you made your appointment.
    - Make sure the bar code appears on the final page of your printed copy.
    2. When you come to the visa application centre, please bring the documents listed below.

    - Completed visa application form, signed and dated
    - Your signed passport or travel document valid for at least 6 months from the date of application with at least 2 blank pages
    - A photocopy of the biodata page of your passport (the page which carries your photograph and personal details)
    - The correct visa fee (JPY in cash only)
    - Supporting documents and a photocopy of all the documents. A document checklist can be found on the UK Border Agency Visa Services website.
    - If you are a foreign resident in Japan, please bring a photocopy of your Japanese alien registration card (both sides)
    - If you a foreign resident please make sure you have a valid re-entry permit endorsed in your current valid passport, valid for a minimum of 2 months from your planned date of departure from the UK.

  • Who needs to submit the application?

You must submit your visa application in person at the visa application centre. You cannot submit it through an agent, friend or family member. Every applicant aged 5 or over will need to have their fingerprints scanned and a photograph taken. This will be done at the visa application centre. Applicants under 16 years of age giving their biometrics must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

  • Required documentation

    The following documentation is required:

A signed and valid passport with a minimum of 6 months validity. A completed and signed application form
A clear passport sized (45mm x 35mm) colour photograph (light grey or cream background). Please refer to UKBA Photograph Guidance for detailed information.
Relevant documents for the category of application you are making.

When your visa application has been processed by the UK Border Agency, your passport and other documents can be collected from the VFS visa application centre where it was submitted. You can track the progress of your application through our online tracking facility (see the track your application page on this website).
